With employment laws giving rights to flexible working to those with school-age families a survey has found resentment in older employees who do not qualify.
The fact is that the more concessions there are the more resentment builds up. Take smoking, banned in the workplace those addicts now have to go outside several times a day. Non-smokers on the other hand remain at their desk and it could be argued do half an hour’s extra work each day. What about their rights?
The same could be argued about the introduction of paternity leave, reduced hours, term-time only contracts and family friendly hours.
You cannot please all the people unless there is a foolproof measurement of the time spent working and pay was adjusted accordingly
With work ethic becoming more scarce my sympathies are with the employers who must negotiate the myriad of rules and regulations on top of running the business.
